Japan operated more than 160 military-run
brothels in the Chinese city of Shanghai,
where Chinese women were forced to
work as sex slaves for Japanese soldiers before and during World War II, a
Chinese expert said Tuesday.
Su Zhiliang, director of a research center on Japan's wartime sexual
enslavement of women at Shanghai Normal University, offered
what appeared to be
a new allegation on Japan's wartime atrocities based on the center's
investigation, according to the official China News Service.
